OPTICAL BRIGHTENER
Optical Brightener is a compound that absorbs the invisible ultraviolet component of sunlight in the 300-400nm range & reemits it as visible light at the blue end of the spectrum due to fluorescent mechanism.

During this mechanism the brightener molecules are excited to higher energy levels & come back to their ground state by emission of radiation which is fluorescence.

Normally whiteness in substrate can be improved by increasing reflection & compensating the blue defect.

They are used to improve the initial color, hide natural yellowing of plastic, and brighten colors.
